Our Mares

Many people discount the influence the mare has on any horse.  However, we know that without a good mare, you won't have a good baby!  With the exception of a new addition to our broodmare herd, our mares continue to produce exceptional colts that become standouts in whatever direction we take them.  Each year we look forward to getting a better colt than they gave us the year before!

Our mares carry the bloodlines of Good Lookin Gray 045, Okie Leo, Jody Fairfax, High Brow Hickory,Young Bert, Freckles Gentleman, Doc O'lena, Peppy San Badger, Dry Doc, War Bond Leo and so much more.  If you are looking for a one of a kind colt, look no more!  We pride ourselves in quality mares that produce quality babies.

New to the SMQH program:

Lil Bita Starlight

,

"Reiny" is something to be excited about!  She is pretty, refined and such a sweet girl!  We are beyond excited to see what her first foal will be in 2016!  She has an outstanding disposition, athletic ability and she is really easy on the eye!  Her pedigree speaks for itself:  Grays Starlight, Reminic, Colonel Freckles, Topsail Cody and the list goes on!  Be looking for her foal in the months to come!

 Northern Elite 045

                                                                                2004 AQHA Sorrel Mare

"Fancy" is by Northern Winter 045 and out of Lady Elite 045; her pedigree goes back to greats like War Bond Leo, Doc O'Lena and Freckles Gentlemen.  We are now riding some of Fancy's colts and they are absolute gentlemen, with an easy going, willing attitude but speed when you ask for it.  By far, this mare is our absolute favorite.  Her colts by Good Lookin Gray 045 have been full of color and chrome, gentle, willing, well-muscled and have great confirmation.  Each year her foals just seem to get better and better.  We have been riding them for a few years now and they have proven themselves to be winners in the arena and superb ranch horses (see Twisted Chex Leo under Sold Horses).   The buyers that have purchased these outstanding horses are extremely pleased with their versatile nature!  Fancy is the mother to our next great horse, Remington of Wyoming.  He is being rode now by Steve Mosser and he is extremely excited about this gelding's future!

Northern Winter 045 was a 1996 gray stallion that went back to Old Sorrel 16 times and was 9.75 percent LeoNorthern Winter 045 is said to have been a "great moving colt with a very pleasent disposition...excellent bone and feet."  His sire, Buy Bonds Baby was the sire of great minds and athletes that were extremely fast.  Of course, War Bond Leo was an NCHA Futurity Finalist, National Reining Horse Assn. Honor Roll Stallion and had 198 cutting points as well as 8 Halter points.

 GCR Okie Velvet Star

 2001 Chestnut Mare

"Velvet's" pedigree is chaulked full of the horses that made the AQHA what it is today.  She is out of the last producing son of Okie Leo and her mother is a daughter of Jody FairfaxOkie Leo was known to be "Leo and King blood at its best!"  Okie Leo earned Superior Performance, ROM Performance, was an AQHA Champion, NCHA money earner and Halter point earner.

As a young filly, Velvet's right hind leg was severely injured by wolves in Montana.  She has been broodmare-sound ever since and has produced quality colts her entire life.  This mare is raising some very nice babies for us, some of which we are currently riding and using.  With each colt, she passes down her great disposition and confirmation.

Shot of Baileys (sold) is an extremely catty, quick young mare!

Pepsi Cowla

2001 Sorrel Mare

"Pepsi" has been producting quality colts for SMQH for the last four years.  She is a smaller, more compact mare that passes her size and cattiness to her foals.  Her pedigree speaks for itself.
